The bell appearing and reappearing ahead of itself
In the Fall of 1957, while playing golf on the tenth green on Holmes Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska my friend and I heard strange noises and saw something strange just a couple of feet off the ground, in an area just several feet south of the green. When we went over to see what it was, we puzzled over a flight of small discs hovering just off the green and a coffin-shaped object sitting beside the green. Even though this scene stirred vague memories of previous encounters, we continued playing.
As we finished playing the hole, we decided to go over and investigate. As we approached the objects, they seemed to fade partially in and out of view and sweep behind some trees. That they periodically faded from view startled us, but we decided to chase them.
As we rounded the trees, a swirling of, what seemed to be, a volume of dense fog shocked us. The fog churned just a few feet away and looked like a small tornado. I, at first, just caught a glimpses of it out of the corner of my eye. Turning to see what might be happening, I saw a bell-shaped object mysteriously emerging from the fast spinning fog. The bell began skimming the ground in an angular direction away from us. The fog immediately began to slow down and dissipate as the bell appeared to be completely solid.
It appeared about 12 feet tall, with an elongated window facing us. The window was set in a tall, white, flat-roofed cabin mounted over two inverted cones, which appeared to be about 12 feet in diameter. The cabin looked like painted metal or plastic. The top cone seemed to be semi-shiny metal – similar in appearance to polished zinc or nickel — and the bottom cone consisted of what seemed to be rounded concentric ribs made of ceramic. The object had four thin legs that, I imagined, would support it if it were to sit on the ground. It seemed awkward as it moved with the legs extended.
I got completely startled when I noticed a tall bearded man standing in the window waving at me. As the bell swept away, it disappeared, while at the same time reappeared a few feet ahead of itself. Seeing this took my breath away.
During this period, I saw three versions of the same craft: one disappearing, one as solid as a car, and one reappearing. The man kept waving from all three versions throughout the bizarre sequence. Within a few moments all of the objects disappeared, permanently.

Remembering this experience still causes goose bumps on my arms and legs. I couldn’t imagine anything so bizarre at that time. How could the bell simply appear, disappear and reappear ahead of itself? I had taken science in high school and I attended geology and pre-engineering courses at the University of Nebraska. Nothing I saw seemed possible. The bearded man particularly puzzled me and still does to some degree (although, I suspect, I’ve since met him). It’s especially interesting that the bell looked very similar to the Mercury Capsule of the 1950s United States space program.
The spinning/whirling cloud of fog, which occurred several times during my experiences, reminded me of the small whirlwinds that are mentioned in the Bible. If they were indeed similar, the implications, again, might be awesome (another connection with God).
Not seeing any more unusual objects, Ronnie and I returned to our golf game and, like with all the other experiences, we soon forgot the entire affair. This time, however, the same or another coffin-shaped object confronted us…which is another nearly unbelievable story.
Very cool! Shared to Facebook. Will add a link to the interview information when it posts too and I’ll send that link after it uploads to the archive site. Show airs tonight at 8pm on KCMO Talk Radio 710AM – it has been edited and (without the news and commercials that are included during the broadcast) will be 40 minutes when it posts to the show archive. [Wendy’s Coffeehouse on Audioboom] Thank you for including so many drawings to describe your encounters!
