(The following UFO story is narrated in Chapter Four of the book Eminent Discovery Volume 1.)
It felt so good to exercise. I climbed the rocks at the rim of the canyon, while my younger cousins went wild, running and screaming southeast of me. (I had just seen one or two strange craft, but couldn’t recall the details.)
Mid summer, 1952: We were sightseeing between Lake City and Crede, Colorado – at the majestic falls on a northern fork of the Rio Grande River. The sun began to sink over the rolling mountains a mile or so away. My aunt (my mother’s sister), my uncle and their friends (another couple) accompanied us.
I felt drained from intense sightseeing throughout the entire day. We had just visited the Lake City area where my father had spent a few wonderful years of his youth – in the majesty of the mountains. His father, my grandfather, had been a Presbyterian minister, as well as a half owner of The Fanny Fern Silver Mine. The Fanny Fern penetrated a part of a huge mountain a couple of miles from Lake City.
We had seen strange objects previously, even near the silver mine and had spent several hours at the falls. Because of the encounters, my uncle got very concerned and kept close watch over my three cousins and me; he wouldn’t allow us out of his sight and confined us to roaming the local area around the car. He finally determined the objects were gone and let us run free along the southwestern side of the falls.
(My uncle, one of the few witnesses who sometimes remembered a little about previous encounters during normal times, really couldn’t remember many details.)
The sun dropped lower in the western sky and I decided to join my cousins. As I walked toward them, they began yelling frantically about some strange object hovering a few feet above the rocks at the edge of the canyon. They ran toward the object and my aunt yelled at me to go get them. Being too far away and not knowing what the object was, she apparently feared for their safety.
Bravely running toward them, I noticed a spinning silvery disc hovering above my cousins at the edge of the canyon. I grabbed one of my cousins and the disc moved off away from us.
We saw two or three smaller discs hovering and moving slowly in different directions, a few feet above the ground, on a flat plain away from the canyon – just yards away from us. Because I tried to control my wild cousins, I couldn’t see exactly what happened at this point.
The next thing I knew, the evening suddenly seemed darker than just moments before. I stood at a different location and felt exhausted, as if I had just spent a lot of energy.
My cousins tried to catch the discs, but just as they got close, the discs scooted off ahead of them. Strangely, it seemed as if the discs played tag with my cousins. I soon notice the features of the discs more closely.
I saw two dim light blue lights on each disc that appeared to be headlights, like the headlights of a car. But the lights didn’t project a beam like automobile headlights; they seemed to irradiate the atmosphere around them. The atmosphere seemed to be aglow with a dim blue illumination. Looking at the irradiation disoriented me at times. I felt additionally strange because I saw a concentric ring inside the illuminated area of each light. The rings gave the discs the appearance of having eyeballs. With what seemed to be their intelligent movement and the eyeball-like headlights, the discs peculiarly seemed to be alive, especially when they interacted in the game with my cousins.
The adults, some distance away, seemed only slightly concerned; they yelled out warnings, yet, at the same time, laughed at the antics of the discs and my cousins. I got completely puzzled at the bizarre scene.
At times the discs just hovered there, with their eye-like headlights staring directly at us.
(This, one of the most awe-inspiring things about this sort of experience, normally frightened us. As a disc hovered in a very subtle but luminous envelope of atmosphere, the reflective light sometimes shone down on the tops of sage brush below it. The eye-like headlights shocked us and we pondered their radiance; it penetrated the air in front of the discs, partially obscuring the vegetation, rolling hills or mountains behind them. Those around me and I normally froze from fear and curiosity.
Also, at times, an unseen force penetrated my body and soul. It seemed to captivate me. During some of these completely astonishing episodes, I received some kind of unusual information I couldn’t completely understand. Even though it was mysterious, it resounded directly in my mind. It involved not only who “they” were and where they came from, but how they fit into the entire scheme of things. As I remember, I heard no words, I just felt an awesome inner knowing that completely inspired me, yet at the same time frightened the courage and rational right out of me. Totally humbled, I wouldn’t move. Analyzing these knowings now, it seems they, in the least, might have involved a sort of subconscious recollection of past experiences.)
During this game of tag, the discs began to move closer toward my cousins and my cousins would run away from them. More concerned, my uncle walked toward us. However, the discs would stop or move off before they got too close to my cousins. He stopped in his tracks, fascinated by what he saw.
I believe we all felt fear by this time, but it seemed to be an atmosphere of recreation and fear – a light hearted fear of the unknown.
Suddenly, I noticed a disc near me. I got excited and began to chase it. I felt extremely exhilarated – out of control, just like my younger cousins. The disc darted off away from me, but then turned and moved swiftly in my direction. My uncle, fairly close by this time, told me to get away from it. Since I felt so exhilarated and it seemed to be a game, I turned and tried to frighten it away. It frightened me, however, as it floated a little closer. All of the adults got more concerned, because the disc hovered within two or three feet of me.
My uncle came running up, yelling that everyone should stay away. As if trying to avoid him, the disc backed up against an old broken barbed wire fence. I then heard strange noises that sounded so curious, I moved a little closer.
Suddenly, the disc seemed to fluctuate and give off loud guttural sounds. This startled me, as well as my uncle who seemed terribly shaken. We all stood there listening to the bizarre sounds for a few moments – until my uncle yelled at all of us to get away. We backed away and returned to our car. By the next morning, we all had forgotten the entire experience.
Flying saucers playing tag? I know, it seems completely unbelievable.
Recalling this encounter in 1986, I began to realize the mysterious intelligences might have had plans for me. It was an intelligence who was obviously serious about close contact, but because of the game of tag, I knew it had a light sense of humor. Yet, I couldn’t understand “their” purpose; the game of tag didn’t seem to make sense in itself. I later recalled small bits of the time- loss.
Sometime between our first sighting and the game of tag, the small discs involved my uncle and cousins in a similar game. The discs maneuvered me, through the activities of the game, to a certain location.
Standing there, I noticed a windowed craft near me. I saw people in it. My aunt, uncle and cousins saw most of what I saw, as well as me. Unfortunately, I still don’t remember many details, but it seemed obvious “they” primarily used the game of tag to move me to that particular location, so the windowed craft could more readily approach me. A voice told me I would join the people in the craft at some time in the future.
(What’s interesting about the small discs is that I’ve seen Middle Age paintings of Mary and the baby Jesus with a flight of similar craft in the background. This would suggest an angelic connection.)
During my recollections of this experience, I tried to figure out what the intelligence might be. Some of the activity seemed so intricately controlled, I presumed a separate intelligence had guided each of the craft from inside, and “they” probably communicated with something similar to radios as the experience progressed. It also seemed as if someone else might have been involved in orchestrating or coordinating the strange activities from some other location, and they all seemed to have a purpose or plan.
I couldn’t understand why we couldn’t remember the time-loss episode, unless “they” purposefully erased it from our minds. I thought something so bizarre possibly occurred, the intelligence thought we might not cooperate during the rest of the encounter – or parts of the time-loss could have been secret in “their” minds, not to be known by the others with me.
Reviewing similar experiences, I became aware we hadn’t seen doors or windows on the surfaces of the coffins or discs. I couldn’t figure out how “they” (whoever they were) could get in or out. The surfaces of the discs and coffins seemed to be semi- shinny metal at times, and at other times, a mixture of metal and ceramic or plastic. Because I couldn’t remember more at times, my anxiety heightened. I wondered not only who they might be, but from where they came, and why.
